It’s World Cup season and GameOn is throwing a PS4 FIFA tournament for fans of the sport next month.

The tourney will be held during World Cup Weekend, a two-day gathering of football fanatics at the Royal Brunei Recreation Club (RBRC) in Berakas from May 12-13, in conjunction with the FIFA 18 World Cup in Russia.

In a press conference yesterday, GameOn chief Amar Agus Din said the FIFA tournament will be GameOn’s biggest yet in terms of prize pool, which totals at over B$3,000 courtesy of Bang & Olufsen (B&O) Brunei and will include official Fifa 18 World Cup merchandises flown all the way from Russia.

Prizes to be won include a B&O BeoPlay S8 speaker system worth B$2,199 for the first place winner, a B&O H7 Headphones (worth B$549) and an H4 Headphones (worth B$399) for the second and third winner respectively.

The winner of the tournament will also receive an official World Cup Adidas Telstar 18 Match Ball and a Matryoshka dolls set. Other prizes to be won include an Offical World Cup polo shirt and a plush Zabiavaka mascot, among others.

The grand prize of the FIFA tournament includes a BeoPlay S8 speaker system from Bang & Olufsen, an official World Cup Tesltar 18 Match Ball and a set of Matryoshka dolls.

Amar said GameOn is opening up slots for up to 64 players for the FIFA game during World Cup Weekend. “But it could reach up to 100 because of our attractive prizes,” he added.

Those interested to participate in the tournament can pre-register online through GameOn’s social media accounts.

Amar, who formed the gaming event management company in 2016, said the popularity of FIFA games in Brunei have grown exponentially over the years, and that GameOn is looking to further amplify the local Esports scene through collaboration with various agencies.

“E-sports has been the most growing sector in the videogame industry, and it’s time for Brunei to be more involved,” Amar said.

Last December, GameOn organised the Brunei E-Sports Tournament 2017 (BEST) which drew in over 500 participants and thousands of spectators, making it the largest gaming event in the sultanate in recent times.
