Three students from the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) were rewarded for producing public awareness videos on cybersecurity.

The students under UTB’s Creative Computing Programme were tasked by the Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) with creating videos related to various cybersecurity and online safety issues, in which BruCert selects the best three for its ongoing public awareness campaign.

The top videos are, in first place, ‘Online Addiction’ by Abdul Mu’Ein Awang Yahya, followed by ‘Always #latepost’ by Farhanah binti Julaihi and ‘Backup Your Data’ by Rozita Razalli.

The three top videos were chosen based on creativity, quality and clarity of the message.

The winners of the contest were rewarded with cash prizes and their videos will be used in local television ads, cinema ads and on BruCERT’s social media accounts.

The project was a collaboration between UTB and IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS), the company tasked to provide the computer emergency response team for Brunei.

The objective behind the collaboration was to create cyber security awareness amongst young Bruneians, foster creativity and giving students an opportunity to showcase their skills.

BruCERT is a national referral agency dealing with computer-related and internet-related security incidents in Brunei. It engages in public awareness initiatives, highlighting online threats, cyber safety and dispenses advise on securing personal information.

BruCERT offers free cybersecurity awareness talks for schools and educational institutions throughout Brunei, and has a regular radio show Cyber Safe on RTB’s Pilihan FM.
