Bezel-less phones. They just keep coming don’t they? Well get ready for another one, this time from a Chinese brand Elephone.
The Elephone S8 is tri-bezel-less, meaning the screen edges to three sides and two corners of the phone except the bottom.
And it’s a huge screen too, spanning 6 inches, which makes for a massive screen-to-body ratio when combined with the tri-bezel-less design. In other words, phone has big screen but small enough to hold in one hand.
It’s nothing we haven’t seen before. Sharp first came up with this design with the Aquos Crystal about a three years ago, and then Xiaomi took inspiration from that and released the Mi Mix earlier this year. More recently a Shenzen-based phone company called Leagoo announced its own tri-bezel-less handset.
But what really sets the Elephone S8 apart is that it is the first and only tri-bezel-less phone rocking a 2k resolution (2560 x 1440) panel, while the Leagoo Kiichaa Mix and the Xiaomi Mi Mix use 1080p screens.
While Samsung and LG offer Quad HD edge-to-edge displays on their latest flagships, the Galaxy S8 and G6 aren’t exactly tri-bezel-less.
The cameras on the Elephone S8 is also the phone’s strongest suite. The rear camera uses a 21-megapixel sensor coupled with a dual-LED dual tone flash, while the front is 8 megapixels.
The Elephone S8 is quite a powerhouse as well, powered by Mediatek’s deca-core Helio X27 processor, which is right up there with rival Qualcomm’s power-efficient Snapdragon 820 chips running on high-end Android phones. It will run on Android 7.1.1.
The S8 is also said to carry a massive 4,000mAh battery to help power that massive, super-sharp 6-inch screen.
The phone will come in two variants; a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage configuration and a 6GB / 128GB combo.
No word on the pricing yet but as it’s coming from China, expect it to be a steal.
