A Bruneian startup has released a smartphone/tablet application that teaches Muslim children basic Islamic knowledge.

Developed by Mindplus Education, Islamic Mind provides interactive learning content based on Brunei’s Islamic curriculum. The mobile app uses animations and quizzes tailored for the young audience aged between 4-12.

Mindplus’ CEO and co-founder Pg Md Khairi Pg Hj Metussin said that Islamic Mind is designed to make Islamic education fun and interactive to get users engaged in the lesson.

The young entrepreneur, who has been in the publishing business for nearly a decade, said that the project aims to make Islamic content accessible by Muslims with the use of the latest available technologies. He also said that users can get the most accurate and credible sources of Islamic learning content through his learning app.

All of the app’s contents comprising 50 Islamic topics had underwent extreme vetting by Brunei’s Islamic Dakwah Centre.

“While the internet has now made it a lot easier for anyone to obtain information, it is also important that we get the right information, especially those related to Islamic teachings,” said Pg Md Khairi.

The firm is now working on expanding its content to 700 more topics in the future as well as supplying an English version.

The project is supported by BIBD and the Department of Islamic Education.

A ceremony was also held this morning at Rizqun International Hotel with the Minister of Religious Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman officiating the app’s launch.

Mindplus was also contracted to develop a similar learning app exclusively for PD Muhammadiyah Kabupaten Cirebon, an Islamic organisation in Indonesia. The company has an office in Bandung.

The startup had won several business plan competitions in the past, including the Ignite Open Category 2012, Brunei ICT Awards 2012 and ASEAN ICT Awards 2013.
