Why spend so much on expensive Virtual Reality (VR) gear when you can simply visit the arcade?
Just head over to Hua Ho Manggis Mall in Berakas and you can get a first taste of VR games at the VR Arcade at Level 1. The outlet just opened its doors to the public yesterday, and is offering over 40 VR games for players to choose from out of the five VR machines available.
The main attraction here is the Defender booth, which I personally think gives the most satisfying 360-degree virtual experience overall at VR Arcade. You stand on a platform surrounded by a guard rail while donning the HTC Vive headset and holding a pair of controllers.
Highlights here include a shooting game, a boxing game and one involving surviving a zombie attack.
I got to try the shooting game on the Defender booth yesterday and despite feeling like playing an on-rails shooter with VR, it was quite a workout as the game requires you to swing your arms to aim your gun and move your body to dodge bullets.
Tickets cost between $2 to $4 per VR session. The VR arcade opens daily from 10am to 10pm.
While I certainly miss old school arcade hits such as Dance Dance Revolution, Daytona and Tekken, immersive VR is a welcome new attraction that should pull in kids of this generation and tech-savvy adults back to the arcade.
